Wakeboard World Cup - Stop 2

Moscow - RUSSIA

Moscow is entertained by the Wakeboard World Championships and Wakeboard World Cup!

Moscow was given a double treat with both the Wakeboard World Championships and the Wakeboard World Cup being held from the 31 st August to 4 th September 2005. MasterCraft Europe, the Official Tow Boat for both events, had two of their world class X Stars' ready for action; each kitted out with factory fitted ballast systems and a 5.9 litre engine which ensured that these boats would give the riders an awesome wake.

With 144 riders, from 20 countries everyone knew that the competition would be fierce and it was! Many new riders proved their abilities, the likes of Harley Clifford (AUS) at only 12 years old pulled off some great moves and secured himself a place on the podium at the World Championships in the Boys Finals, along with Estelle Tuaz, (FRA) MasterCraft sponsored rider winning 1st place in the Girls Finals.

During the 4 days of the World Championships the pressure was on for the Pro riders due to the introduction of a new format for the World Championships. The top 6 riders from the Open Men's & Women's Finals would go through to ride in the World Cup event on Sunday and into the World Cup tour itself.

The World Championships saw a few surprises with the likes of Robbie Rendo, failing to make it through to the World Cup due to falling twice in her pass, where as the likes of Will Christen (GBR), MasterCraft sponsored rider and Denise DeHann (NED), performed brilliantly and got the opportunity to ride at the World Cup – the first time for both!

The final scoring for the Open Men on the World Championships ran with Jeff Weatherall (AUS) in 1 st with Philip Soven (USA) and Josh Sanders (AUS) taking 2 nd and 3 rd . In the Open Women's heat, Andrea Fountain (NZL) took 1 st with Louise Moore (GBR) MasterCraft Sponsored rider, and Denise DeHann (NED) taking 2 nd and 3 rd .

The World Cup format included the new Head to Head for the Pro Men that was seen back in Enghien-Les-Bains, the first Wakeboard World Cup stop back in June. Riders such as Philip Soven (USA), Daniel Watkins (AUS) and Jeff Weatherall (NZL) proved why they are included in the world's top ranking riders with each securing 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd respectfully in the Pro Men's Heat.

In the Pro Women's, Cathy Williams (USA) and Louise Moore (GBR) fell in their passes which made way for new rider, Sunni Anne Ball (CAN) to take 1 st place. Both Andrea Fountain (NZL) and Denise DeHann (NED) found themselves on the podium again both taking 2 nd & 3 rd respectfully.

In 4 th place came Brett Eisenhauer (AUS) and Louise Moore (GBR).

This exciting new turn in the Pro Women's heat guarantees that the Finals in Singapore on 22 nd & 23 rd October will be a nerve wracking experience for all involved!
