I received the following request from the Malibu organizers (Jerry Jackson, Chad Scott, Tommy Harrington)

The Malibu Open Tournament Organizers are requesting a Slalom Gate Rule Exception. We would like to utilize the “Moomba Gate” Rule at the event. The rule exception has already been granted to Moomba over multiple years, and was granted to Masters at Calloway Last Year. Both events successfully utilized the rule exemption without controversy.
Rule Exception: A skier shall be judged as missing the entry or exit gate when the ski passes entirely and clearly outside the gate buoy.
Purpose: Maintain a fluid event without delays for “close calls” or errors.  This is a Pro Event- with spectators- it is always best to keep these events moving in a fair fashion. 
If granted, our event rules will be updated and the skiers notified.

Please vote YES if you approve the exception.

Corey Vaughn comments: This is how Pro Tournaments should run. If it\'s a clear and obvious miss, pull the gate. If it\'s questionable, it goes to the skier and the event moves on. 

The only caveat is that this will be a record tournament and no records should be set on a missed gate. There will be video to review should this become an issue.

Manon Costard comments: We use this rule for Moomba because of the current and backwash making the buoys move considerably when unexpected. Trophy Lakes is a perfect lake which does not require an exception to the rule. 

While I understand the wish of keeping the event going with as little delays as possible, we must remember that the scores will be official and on the ranking lists. Therefore, they should answer to the same requirements and rules as any other score. 

This seems to be a very slippery slope as it sets a precedent. By granting this exception to a perfect lake we put ourselves in the position where every pro event will be asking for the same rule exception. If all pro events use this rule exception, the ranking list will be showing scores that are not judged according to the same standards. This is an issue.

Felix Loreto comments: As per Bob´s answer (tournament at a lake), I would like to comment there has been \"Yes\" votes which I believe have been made without asking where this tournament will be held at.
When asking for an exception, an explanation should come together with request, I see none.
We cannot afford to be surprised and make unnecessary exeptions.

Jose Antonio Perez Priego comments: As you know I rarely express my opinion on tech issues but always try to follow them. The rule exception for gates at Moomba has a reason and I was not aware it was granted at Masters,  however, as Manon correctly states Trophy Lakes are one of the best sites in the USA and are legendary for records set there.
I see no reason to grant this exception where a potential record will be happening. I am quite shock they plan to have spectators this year there.
