I received the following request from Jo-Anne M Moore:
I have a request for our tournaments in July.  Because a lot of judges are not allowed to travel out of their region, I would like to use them to call tricks.  The way we do our trick calling now is that we record the run in the boat on an iPhone, swap out the phone after each skier.  While the next skier is going, we upload the files to the tournament center and the judges call the run.  Because of this we do not have eyes on the water and have decided that we will be using 2 shore judges similar to jump who are aware of what is going on, on the water.  We feel – and we have discussed this in our Technical Committee meetings in Canada, that there should be no reason that we can’t send the files to 3 separate judges off site (somewhere in Canada – or even the world) who would then call the run and immediately send back their sheet electronically.

If we end up being able to actually have a WRL tournament, this would give us the ability to have better scoring of the trick runs as our best trick callers live outside our immediate region and by law are not allowed to travel to the tournament personally.

We would only do this for the trick event.

Please let me know if the Tournament Council would consider allowing this.  To the best of my knowledge, it would only be 8 skiers and I could even provide the trick runs and scores to the Council for review after the tournament.

Felix Loreto comments: Trick already is a video judged event.
The main difference would be judges would be off-site.
For this to happen would have to rely on good communication/internet with remote judges so they can receive videos and send scoring sheets back. 
Would have to determine a time frame for judges to send back score sheets.

Christophe Duverger comments: i find it very sad for the jury team and the overall atmosphere in the competition....i think that can only happen if there is no other way around it...i can understand this year of course.... but for the futur and only for me, i will stop calling tricks if this happen in all the competitions...
the fun in our sport is to mix the skiers and the jury to have fun and share moments all together....calling tricks behind a TV is all ready not very fun, but if you don\'t even travel to see your friends and stay home in front of a computer for the all event....forget it...
but for that event and only that event ok for me....
make sure you find a solution so the run you are calling is from the actual competition and not from a training session...:)

Dimos Alexopoulos comments: Christophe has expressed with the best way my personal views on this matter.
The judging part of the sport in any discipline should continue bringing officials together, as well as skiers. Technology in my opinion should help only in order to provide the best possible judging.
I understand the issues due to Covid, but I think this is not the correct way to go. 
Organizers should try to find judges that can travel inside a country and if needed, maybe judges of lower qualification.
The request of having judges involved by internet in any competition, should not be accepted in the future.
I will accept this request only once, for this specific competition.
Bob and Candido please make sure that we are voting for one competition, not for all competitions of this season.
