I received the following request from Keith Albritton the Pro Am 38 organizer:

Hey guys I’m new at this stuff I’m raising the women’s pay out to the same as the men’s so $8.500 for men and $8,500.for women Matteo told me I should have done that 30 days before the tournament  I’m asking for a exception to give the women more points I understand if not. I’m just trying to support the sport thx

The Elite Rules specifically say that the prize amount must be fixed 30 days before the tournament and that the money can be increased, but the Elite points are based on the the stated prize money 30 days prior to the tournament.

The submitted amounts were $8600 for men and $7000 for women.  My opinion is that we need to follow the rules as clearly stated.

 Vote Yes to allow an exception and vote No to stay with the rules as stated.

Corey Vaughn comments: I elaborated on this topic at length the last time it came up.  

It would be lovely to vote for equality, but equal pay for Men\'s and Women\'s slalom prize purse is not equality. It is taxation.  Most of the tournament revenue is coming from entry fees. I would be willing to bet that the pro men\'s field will outnumber the pro women\'s feel by nearly a margin of 2:1.  Therefore, money is being taken from men\'s entry fees and being applied to women\'s purse. That is not equality or fairness. Moreover, in the spirit of competition, the winner of the Men\'s event will have beaten nearly double the number of people that the Women\'s champion will have beaten. Again, not fair.  

I would be 100% for equality if the numbers were there to support it. This is not equality and not a good precedent for our pro events.

Glen Williams comments: This is not really a vote about equality , this is a vote about our 30 day rule . I’m sure this 30 day rule was made for a good reason and unless someone on this discussion convinces me otherwise I will vote no on this issue

I don\'t know the reason for the 30 day rule Bob could you inform me of the reason this rule is in place when I know the reason for the rule I will vote on

Bob Corson comments: To answer Bruc\'s question:  The 30 day rule is there to ensure that skiers are informed in advance so that they can decide to go or not.  If a skier decided not to go because the prize/points were too low and made other plans.  Then if suddenly, at the last minute, the prize got much higher and they couldn\'t go, it would be unfair. They can increase the money, but not the points.

Candido Moz comments: Hi all, for the 30 days rule I will say yes to the exception.
I do understand Cori comment but Men will still pay the same entry fee and receive the same prize money. With the entry fees the organizers can do what they wish, provided that they meet the minimum requirements of the existing rules, they can keep the extra income, if there are extra income, for themselves or like in this case giving it back to the sport, how they believe is better.

Bruce Cockburn comments: at some tome the rule was set at 30 days for the cut off to set the elite points
I belive this request for an exemption is to increase the elite points after the 30 day deadline
the way I see it if we approve the exemption we are saying we don\'t agree with the 30 day deadline so we should change the rule if that is the case
at this time I am voting no to the exemption because there are no reason for the exemption except that they have increased the prize money after the 30 
days 
now if we want to change the rule I would support changing the rule to remove the 30 day deadline

Glen Williams comments: I vote no on changing elite points as this breaks 30 day rule this committee set for good reason . I support the increase in prize money  . 
We should be moving towards equal prize money and although I accept Corey’s comments it is not for us to tell the organisers how they raise that prize money .
