At the Masters, Candido and I met with engineers from Nautique and AWSA representatives to determine what rules should be in place for the new capabilities of the 2019 Nautique.  Below is the consensus result.  Please approve these rules regarding the 2019 Nautique.

SLALOM: 

There will be NO RE-RIDES for a setting different than requested, as long as the adjustment for the line length is within the Matrix provided by the company. 

If a rope length is selected that changes the MicroTuner setting, (for example the proper rope length should have had the MicroTuners deployed and the chosen length did not deploy them), then will a re-ride be allowed. If a complete pass was made, there will be no re-ride.

 

JUMP:

The Jump HydroGate will be 0 to 10. The default setting is Jump mode (10). The Hydrogate may be adjusted to a setting of Slalom mode between 0 and 9 or Jump mode 10.  It is the skier’s responsibility to inform the boat crew his HydroGate setting prior to leaving the dock. It will remain in that position for his/her turn.

 

2018 Youth and Over 35 Championships limitations

The Jump HydroGate will be limited to 0, 5 and 10. The default setting is Jump mode (10). The Hydrogate may be adjusted to a setting of Slalom mode (0), Halfway (5), or Jump mode (10).  It is the skier’s responsibility to inform the boat crew of slalom (0) or Halfway (5) option prior to leaving the dock. It will remain in that position for his/her turn.

 

TRICK: 

The Trick HydroGate will be 0 to 10. The default setting is Trick mode (10). The Hydrogate may be adjusted to a setting of Slalom mode between 0 to 9 or Trick mode (10).  The skier may choose to change the setting between passes.

 

TRICK BALLAST SYSTEM: 

If equipped, the ballast system start setting will be choose by each skier (option are 0%, 25%, 50% 75% or 100%). The skier may select +/- 50% for their 2nd pass based on their first selection. There will be no adjustment during a pass. The skier will not receive a re-ride for any skier selected ballast adjustment

Here is a brief description:

MicroTuners - The MicroTuners are small interceptors that are deployed at the transom to create small disturbances which are designed to fill in the low areas of the wake form.    At this time the MicrTuners are only used in Slalom.  They are deployed automatically by LINC Panoray anytime the combination of rope length and speed puts the skier in front of or behind the rooster main rooster tail.  The MicroTuners are either deployed or not deployed, they do not have variable settings.  As a result of the MicroTuner technology, the skier remains much closer to lake level rather than dropping into the troughs and voids.  This allows gives a two fold gain.  The skier does not fall down below lake level, so they do not have to climb back out of the exit trough and the ski is connected with the water for a much higher portion of the wake cross allowing the skier to create more load on the line and be earlier for the next buoy.

HydroGate setting (0-10) - The HydroGate has the same function as the previous Ski Nautique 200 however it is automated and controlled by the LINC Panoray touch screen.  This allowed us to add settings in between full down (0 - Slalom mode) and full up (10 - Jump/Trick Mode). To remember the scale think of the 0-10 settings as being the size of the wake, not the amount the gate is deployed.  Having these intermediate settings allows the skiers in Trick and Jump to add a portion of the gate to create some lift and adjust the wake.  The higher level Trick skiers will most likely not use this feature choosing to stay at 10/Trick mode, but it can be helpful for extreme slow speeds where children might be skiing.  For Jump, we believe that the adjustments will be used more widely. Jumpers who do not need the full power of the boat due to their speed and distance may choose to deploy the HydroGate to adjust the size and shape of the wake for their preference.  The adjustments are equal increments from 0 to 10.

Hanifah Yoong Yin Fah comments: Larry, the micro tuners are a big problem to skiers in slalom who have little practices in the 2019 boats. Because the low levels at wakes had been filled up the skiers do not have the benefit of muscle memory to edge change at second wake resulting in less experienced skiers and also maybe some pros preferring to slalom on the 2018 boats. My skiers found better form in the 2018 boats but then they are far less in experience. The hydrogate at 0 for slalom and 10 for tricks - no problems. the 2019 boats on a deep lake like Robin Lake at 25% ballast is same as 50% for shallower lakes like at Pickos lakes. 

For those who are representing regions here it is crucial that they respectfully convey all these discussions to all their federations in their region in detail, particularly for the benefit of the 2019 worlds participants in Putrajaya.

Ballast will not replace the 50 Kg (2 different items) One is a boat spec,(ballast), the other is Tournament supply weight (50 Kg).
Hydrogate was already present in the Nautique 200. O=full down (Slalom mode) 10=full up (Jump mode). In the new Nautique there are more options from 0 to 10 a skier can choose what he prefer. This is why for the World we set 0, 5 or 10.

Hanifah Yoong Yin Fah comments: Larry, the ballast is automated and we can only set it on 0%, 25%, 50% or 100%. At 25% in deeper Robin Lake (US Masters) it is similar to to same boat at 50% ballast in Cory\'s lake 2 and but not exactly. There is the 50kg portable ballast at the dock (hope it is 2 x 25kg) for coaches to play about bringing wake higher up for tricks. I would imagine my skiers (including the little ones will trick at 25% ballast in Ricardo\'s lake for Jr Worlds and Aaliyah might need another 25kg ballast in boat with auto ballast set at 25%, just for balancing the boat. I am happy for the above guidelines for my skiers for the time being. 

By the way if ballast is set at 100% the wake is huge and good for wakeboarding. :-)

As for the MicroTuners, they are programmed to deploy automatically at the proper rope length and speed combinations when the user is in slalom mode.  The driver chooses rope length on the screen.

Dimos Alexopoulos comments: Following the answer of Candido about the Microtuners and after a little more research, I understand that the Microtuners system will deploy automatically according to rope length and speed, for ALL the skiers. The skier has no option to use it or not. Only the driver sets the length of rope in the screen. If this is the case then I have no objection.
