The World Games for 2021 urgently needs to know our rules and skier selection by Jan.14 2018.
My recommendation is to use the same method as previously discussed in issues 512, 503, 488, 487, 472, 414, 346, 342, 329, 323, and 279.
I would alter it slightly to have the automatic selection be for 11 men and 7 women rather than the 12/8 as that way it will not be possible to exceed the 54 skier limitation.  If that is fewer than 54 skiers, we will fill in to make the actual events 12/8 if possible using the same method of selecting the highest ranked skiers from non selected countries.
The selection would be based on the October 2020 Ranking List.

Candido Moz comments: It\'s really urgent, this is the actual rules:
Maximum 5 athletes per country.
Additional explanation: Competition at the World Games is Three-Event, Slalom, Tricks and Jump.
We are allowed 54 skiers and we will take the top 12 men and 8 women in each event, the best from each country. We will then added the top ranked skiers from all of the unselected countries,one from each of 5 countries. This will then be 54 skiers from 27 countries.
I know skiers will like to look into the selections criteria, but as I say on the top it\'s really urgent.

Nigel Talamo comments: The selection criteria may be fine but why are there 50% more men than women? It should be an equal split.

Felipe Leal comments: I am ok with the simple explanation that Candido gave, what I would like to know is how will be the procedure in case any of the 54 skiers selected, decided to decline. Will be a skier selected from the same country?
Will be a following skier from the ranking and from a country that was not participating already?
Will the skier be replaced in other event?
I am asking all these questions because right now it is not clear the procedure.

Corey Vaughn comments: Sorry I have not had an opportunity to weigh in on this issue. I do t find this one to be as critical. The World Games are a no prize money, no elite points event with little coverage. Thus, this past year the top three American slalom skiers all turned down the invitation to participate. If we were talking about a World Cup stop with a big purse, elite points and travel expenses paid, it would be critical to get the selection criteria perfect. For an event that may be pulled by a boat that is a joke I\'m pretty sure many of my fellow  slalom skiers are not overly concerned about the selection criteria, nor should we consider the world games to be a major exposure opportunity for our sport. 

Is there any hope for or talk of World Cup stops on the horizon. I think those would deserve a lot of discussion.

The site in Poland last time was not good from what I saw and the boats below par however is being part of the Olympic family and attending the world games not a good thing for waterskiing ? 
As for the coverage we received world games waterski coverage on prime time here in NZ . For once skiing was being talked about at school and work the next day . 
Whatever criteria we agree on should involve the worlds best skiers from as many different countries as possible

Hanifah Yoong Yin Fah comments: World Cups with good prize funds are great but to say the World Games is not interesting I disagree. Poland was one off with boat but next World Games in the USA will be different. To equate most important IOC recognised world games and regional multisport Games without prize funds as not interesting might be quite far off the mark. 

Maybe the USA and AUS & NZL without much NOC support have this feeling but in many countries in Latin America and in Asia these multisport games are the true life-lines for our sport. I think this might be true for CAN and the USA too in so far as the PANAM Games go. I am not sure about how EA is impacted by their Mediterranean Games though. 

Even though there are skeptics aplenty for our sport to get into the Olympics young skiers in Asia and Latin America are always hopeful we continue to reach for that status. Hope something stirs for Paris 2024 if not I will still strive with our Malaysian NOC till my dying breath for the sake of future athletes of our sport, many of them not born yet.

Jacinta Carroll comments: As a skier I love nothing more than representing Australia. Unfortunately with 0 support from our governing body it makes it very expensive to sacrifice work, and time off to go and compete.
This year I simply chose to spend my money on the World Championships rather than world games. I couldnt afford to do both. With worlds I dont win money however it is the WORLDS and has elite points...
I agree there is potential for exposure of our sport and this is a must.
Maybe IWSF could send some skiers...ie as a bonus for being Elite number 1 for the previous year you get given some help to go and show off our sport to multiple countries, and politicians that may or may not have any influence on Olympics. This would give skiers and incentive to be number 1 (because right now there is no incentive, except internal motivation) and also get the best skiers at this event.
Without any support or help, and during a worlds year....I will always choose worlds.
