Here is the issue


Well we have been running 3 Ranking List systems for 1 year now.
I have a simple capture of the top 20 men and top 10 women in each event on this web page:

I am not sure how you would go about deciding the validity of each list and if any one is better than another.  One thing that I think is weak about the placement system is the large drop off in points between the 1st place and 10th for women and 20th for men.  
A strength of the ELO system is that you are competing against a skier's rank rather than a particular skier.  However, to improve your rank, you need to ski against strong skiers which may require travel.

Christophe Duverger comments: it is very hard to compare the lists, no system is perfect! so we have to vote for the one that reach the most of our goals.
make a list of things that are important for you, read the rules and go for it...
i prefer the ELO system that force the skier to ski one against the other...skiers already travel the world to find the best places to do the performance...why not to find the skiers they need to beat to improve?!

Nigel Talamo comments: Both the ELO system and the Placement system use fiendishly complicated mathematics but both compare skiers against each other. So either of these systems is more pertinent than the traditional ranking list. ELO for me makes a little more sense but Placement also works. One other thing is do we really need to list everyone in the world? The first 50 is plenty. Is the tricker that scored 6.18 that worried about placement?

Hanifah Yoong Yin Fah comments: Hi all, I cannot vote but please allow me to comment. 1.0 It is critical that ALL skiers names are listed however low. This was a crucial tool for Asia to convince their governments and backers how their skiers are advancing every 3 to 6 months and secure fundings. The culture of waterski is very little and insignificant in Asia compared to the comfort zones of EA and PANAM we need complete lists please. I think Nigel is commenting as EA which is fair enough and not as Asia. But even though EA, I think lesser skiers can motivate their parents by their progress through these lists. 2.0 What ever list is suitable so long as the relative scores are mentioned. Media and government do not understand the ranking scores in numerical representations after we had educated them for so long in our scoring methods past 6 years. Remember these lists are for the supporters reference also not only for the \"experts\" in waterski. Thank you all.
