I received the following request from Robert Harris.  We have discussed this issue several times and always felt that it was not a true competition if different boats were used.
This request is set in the context of trying to promote participation in tournaments rather than competition, necessarily.

Eric Kelley will be hosting a class L tournament at his site this coming July.  It will be a ranking list only tournament - not a championship.  He'd like to try allowing skiers to choose from among the available boats for slalom and jump, same as trick.  Please let us know if we can have an exception to try this.  We believe anything that will stimulate interest in skiing tournaments is good for the sport.

Nigel Talamo comments: This seems like the start of a slippery slope. If we allow a choice of boats now then it follows that the next request will be for a choice of drivers or a choice of lakes.

Felix Loreto comments: From the TC\'s point of view:
Having several boats requires rigging all of them for slalom and jump. More transmitters, more cameras, more cables, more skier trakkers all of which TC might not have, plus the fact of the extra load of work on the TC.
And finally the fact that competition will not be equal for all.

Georgi Renosto comments: I don\'t see it\'s not equal, actually I see the opossite, if you use the boat that makes you ski better then you\'re in equal conditions against other skiers. BUT, I agree with the TC point about more equipment required, but that\'s up to the organizer and the homologator who agrees to do the job. I see this proposal really positive for the skiers as long as it\'s used just in tournaments and not in championships.

Bob Corson comments: This was requested several years ago - actually they were just doing it in Florida because the Pro skiers had contracts that said the could only ski behind their sponsor\'s boat in non-cash or non-title R tournaments because the sponsor did not want the possibility of his skier setting a record behind another company\'s boat.  The TC examined the situation and felt that if different skiers had different boats it was not competing under the same conditions and thus not allowed under the rules.
I do note that this request is for an L, not an R tournament.
