I was asked about the issue of having more than 4 rounds at a site, but only declaring 4 to be used.  I know in Australia they have a 5 round, but they declare which round does not count before the start of the tournament.  Here the suggestion is to declare which round does not count before the round, but it would differ by skier.  So one skier might declare rounds 1,2,3, declare 4 as not used before round 4 and then use round 5 while another skier might use only rounds 2,3,4,and 5 by declaring before round 1 that it would not be used.  
Frankly I do not agree with this because who is closely monitoring and recording the separate rounds by skier.  It is already a bit uncomfortable to take 4 of 5 when predetermined by round.  Whay are they doing that anyway?  How is it to their advantage?
So, I am asking for other's thoughts as well.

Bruce Cockburn comments: I don\'t think alowing the skier to choose is workable we have a few 5 round slalom tournaments in Australia and most of them notify me the rounds that will be used for ranking before the event if they don\'t send this information in I take the first 3 rounds(was 3 now would be 4)of the tournament this is workable alowing the skier to choose the rounds for ranking would be a nighmare to keep track of I am not in favour of it

Brian Woolley comments: Agree with Bruce. It would be difficult to administrate and is more open to the abuse of choosing the best round after the event.

Peter Person comments: I have to agree, I don\'t like the idea of more than the 4 rounds. Declaring or choosing is un-manageable and will lead to problems.
